Newly appointed Glencree CEO, Naoimh Mc Namee represented Glencree at the Annual Armistice Day Commemorations at Glasnevin Cemetery on the 11th November. This year seven newly identified casualties of the First World War had their graves marked by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Glasnevin Trust. The Trust’s mission today remains as it was handed down from Daniel O’Connell: “to bury people of all religions and none”.

Accompanied by the Chair of the Board, Barbara Walshe, they participated in a very moving ecumenical service of prose, poetry, prayers and music which remembered the dead of all wars and prayed for peace in the world.

Chairman, John Green of the Glasnevin Trust was accompanied by indefatigable Glasnevin CEO, George Mc McCullough, as relatives, members of the Diplomatic Community, former and current military services paid their respects and laid wreaths, some poppies, some draped with tricolour and other floral tributes to the dead at the Cross of Sacrifice in Glasnevin. Next year Glencree will also lay a wreath there to the futility of war.
