Glencree was delighted to welcome Professor Andrew Joseph Hill and a group of students from St. Philip’s College, San Antonio, Texas, for a special visit to the Centre.
Professor Hill, who was promoted to Professor of Philosophy in 2024 after many years teaching Philosophy and Ethics, first visited Glencree in 2022 following his time as a residential volunteer at Corrymeela Peace Centre. His connection with Glencree began through a friendship with our Office Administrator, Val Kiernan, whom he first met online during the COVID-19 pandemic while following The Kitchen Table Sessions – the online music platform hosted by Val and her son, Dylan Crampton.
Returning to Glencree with his students, Professor Hill wanted to introduce them to the Centre’s unique history, mission, and contribution to peacebuilding on the island of Ireland.
Professor Hill and his students were warmly welcomed by Val and Glencree Board member Geoffrey Corry, a founding member of Glencree, mediator, trainer, and conflict resolution specialist. Val led the group on a tour of the Glencree site, sharing its rich history and the many roles it has played over the decades. Geoffrey then delivered a thought-provoking presentation entitled Northern Ireland Conflict: The Troubles 1969-98 – Resolving a Binary Identity Conflict, providing valuable insights into conflict resolution and reconciliation.
The visit was a wonderful opportunity to share Glencree’s work with the next generation of students and peacebuilders. Judging by the smiles in the photographs, it was a memorable morning for everyone involved, rounded off with a special farewell as Val performed one of her own peace-inspired songs for the group.
