Glencree Joins Expert Panel on Mediation in Conflict Zones at MII Conference

 

19/10/24: Glencree was pleased to take part in a recent panel discussion focusing on the role of mediators in conflict-affected areas at the Mediators' Institute of Ireland conference in Belfast. Glencree Community and Political Dialogue Manager, Pat Hynes along with fellow-panelists Baroness Cathy Ashton, Nita Yawanarajah, Enda Young and Tony Davis shared insights from their work in peacebuilding and mediation.

The discussion explored a wide range of themes including the impact of power and gender dynamics, the importance of fostering mutual understanding and the challenges and opportunities of working across cultures. The panel also reflected on the Northern Ireland peace process and the lessons it offers for conflict resolution in other parts of the world.

Glencree welcomed the opportunity to contribute to this important dialogue and to highlight the value of sustained, dialogue and relationship-building focused approaches to peacebuilding.

During the 2-day Conference, Glencree CEO Naoimh McNamee was also honored to join MII President Ber Barry Murray in presenting the Generosity of Spirit Award to Denis Blanch and to congratulating Dr. Treasa Kenny on the Lifetime Achievement in Mediation Award.
