Glencree Joins Panel at Premiere of “A Town Called Pyla”

25/2/25: Glencree was honoured to take part in a special event at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Dublin, marking the premiere of 'A Town Called Pyla', a new documentary by Gerry Gregg. The film explores the unique example of peaceful coexistence in Pyla, a town on the Green Line in Cyprus where Greek and Turkish Cypriots have lived side by side despite decades of division elsewhere on the island.

Hosted by the Very Reverend Dean William Morton, the event was attended by a wide range of dignitaries, including Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste, members of the diplomatic corps, judiciary, civil society and interfaith community.

Following the screening, a panel discussion reflected on the film and its relevance to global peacebuilding. Glencree’s Pat Hynes joined former Garda Commissioner and UN Assistant Secretary General Nóirín O’Sullivan and Chief Superintendent Brian Woods - who has served in Pyla with the UN Police and Garda Síochána - in a conversation moderated by broadcaster Bryan Dobson. The discussion highlighted the Gateway Project’s mission to foster reconciliation through sport, culture and dialogue. It also drew on parallels between the work in Cyprus and efforts closer to home.

Glencree extends its warmest congratulations to Chief Supt. Woods, Belvedere Youth Club and all involved in the Gateway Project. We look forward to supporting the next phase of this important work.
