Section 42 Public Sector Equality & Human Rights Duty – Glencree Event

In November 2021, Glencree Intercultural & Refugee and Women’s Leadership Programmes co-hosted an online conversation about the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty in Section 42 of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014. Held as part of South Dublin County Council Social Inclusion Festival, the event explored how Section 42 can be used as a framework to promote access to equality across all sectors.

Introduced by Glencree’s Intercultural & Refugee Programme Manager, Nadette Foley, and moderated by Bashir Otukoya, Assistant Professor of Advance European Union Law at Dublin City University, speakers included Selina Bonnie, South Dublin County Council’s Disability Liaison, Access and Equality Officer, Omolola Adesina who advocates for ethnic minority groups, and Amina Moustafa, Glencree’s Women’s Leadership Programme Manager and board member of Sports Against Racism.

As well as a live panel discussion and Question and Answer session, the event also featured two newly commissioned pieces of poetry by Daniel Kamenyezi and Didier Ngaboyeka which can be viewed below.
