On Thursday, 21st January 2016 the ground breaking feature length documentary Born and Reared will be screened for the first time in Irish theatres at the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray, Co. Wicklow. This event is being hosted by Anne Ferris, Labour TD for Wicklow/East Carlow, in aid of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in recognition of the role played by Glencree in the peace process. Deputy Ferris has also been assisting the filmmakers in planning screenings in Leinster House and Stormont during January/ February 2016.

Born and Reared follows the lives of five men from different backgrounds over a period of more than a year, weaving together a tapestry of contemporary male stories of identity set in post conflict Northern Ireland in a balanced and sensitive manner. Following the screening there will be a Q&A session with the filmmakers Henrietta Norton and Dan Dennison facilitated by author and former government Minister Liz McManus.

Born and Reared, 21st January 2015 at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at €20.

A little about the filmmakers:

Hen (Henrietta) is a London based filmmaker and producer with a life long interest in the people and politics of Northern Ireland. Mo Mowlam’s step daughter, she lived in Northern Ireland with her father, younger brother and Mo during her childhood.

Brought up in Glencree, Co. Wicklow, Dan Dennison is a filmmaker and photographer working for Getty and VICE. His work regularly features in the New York Times, New York Daily News, Guardian, The Spectator, The Observer, Financial Times, etc.

As collaborators these two young filmmakers have a growing reputation for high quality film work and one of their short pieces commissioned by The Guardian (US edition) is currently featured on that newspaper’s website.
