27/11/20: Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation (Glencree) today announced the appointment of two new members to Glencree’s Board of Directors.

Joining the Board are Paul Kierans, who will also Chair Glencree’s Audit & Risk Committee, and William O’Brien. These new Board appointments brings Glencree’s Board membership to 11.

“We are pleased to welcome Paul and William who bring decades of experience particularly in key areas of governance, strategy, business and financial planning to the Board.” Barbara Walshe, Chair of Glencree said today. “Their skills and expertise complement those of our existing Board members and we look forward to their contributions as we continue to chart a course for Glencree to become a leading global peace centre.”

“I would also like to thank our outgoing Board members Andy Pollak, who served 6 years, and Dónall Curtin, who served 3 years, for their work in helping Glencree overcome the challenges we faced in the aftermath of the global economic downturn and more recently as a result of Covid-19. Our Board members give their time and counsel voluntarily and we are forever grateful to them for their dedication not just to the cause of peace but to ensuring our continued development and the highest standards of governance, transparency and accountability for our stakeholders.” Barbara Walshe added.

Paul Kierans is a risk, compliance, corporate governance, data protection and (re)insurance professional with 35 years in the (re)Insurance industry, over half of which were in risk and compliance roles. Paul has worked for many of the largest insurers including Zurich, Fortis, RSA, AIG, AmTrust and is currently AXA XL Insurance SE’s Head of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs, Europe. Paul served on the faculty of the National College of Ireland, where he wrote a Commercial General Insurance Textbook and lectured in Financial Services. An Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurer, Paul holds an MBA from Manchester Business School, an LLB from the University of London, a Diploma in Compliance, and a Certificate in Data Protection from UCD.

Currently Chair of Woodenbridge Inn Limited, William was formerly General Manager of the Woodenbridge Hotel, which was purchased by the O’Brien family in 1993. Before entering the hospitality sector, William was part of the management team at Waterford Foods, now Glanbia, during a period of growth and expansion.
