Statement by Glencree Centre of Peace and Reconciliation on the Death of HM Queen Elizabeth II

9 September 2022: On behalf of The Board and Staff at the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation (Glencree), we would like to convey our deepest sympathies to His Majesty King Charles III, the Royal Family, the UK Government and the British people on the loss of their beloved monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen was a truly remarkable woman whose dedication to furthering peace, healing and encouraging reconciliation between our islands was heart-warming and inspiring. Her reign was extraordinary, and a constancy in many lives across the UK and around the world. Her State Visit to Ireland in 2011 was the clearest demonstration of her friendship to all of us who share the island of Ireland, it was significant also in deepening the relationship with our nearest neighbour. May her legacy carry on as we continue to work together for a peaceful future.

We remember with warmth also the two occasions when HM King Charles visited Glencree in 2002 and 2019. Along with Glencree Patron and President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, we discussed the transformative power of dialogue in honouring the past and looking with confidence to the future.

To her grieving family and people, we join with you in mourning the loss of your dear mother and extraordinary monarch whose passing truly marks the end of an era. She has left the world a richer and kinder place.
