5/4/22:  The Board and Staff of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation extend our deepest sympathy to the O’Higgins family and the Carmelite Community on the passing of Sister Mary Kevin O’Higgins ODC.

Sr. Mary Kevin was the sister of our late co-founder, Una O’Higgins O’Malley, and daughter of Kevin O’Higgins who was killed by anti-treaty forces in 1927 when he was Minister for Justice in the first government after partition.

Barbara Walshe, Chair, Glencree Centre said: “It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Sr. Mary Kevin. Both she and her sister Una dedicated their lives to building trust and peace – Sr. Mary Kevin through her 75 years in the Carmelite Community and Una through a lifetime of campaigning for peace and justice which included the founding of the Glencree Centre. Our thoughts are with the extended O’Higgins family and the Carmelite Community at this time.”
